Some caretakers are only caring for a couple of cats and may opt to do the QUICK FIX instead of the BIG FIX. As the name indicates, this is done faster than waiting for the BIG FIX.
The QUICK FIX starts the same as the BIG FIX. A caretaker calls our hotline (502-634-8777) seeking spay/neuter assistance for unowned cats that are being cared for. The caretaker receives a call back from a telephone screener and is asked the same series of questions they would be asked for the BIG FIX. Once it is determined the caller is interested in a QUICK FIX, their information is given to a QUICK FIX volunteer. The QUICK FIX volunteer will usually contact the caretaker within two weeks.
QUICK FIXES are done at local veterinary offices by a fully licensed vet. The QUICK FIX is a service provided by vets at their offices and therefore a nominal fee is required for services provided. The cats receive the same basic care through the QUICK FIX as through the BIG FIX. Each cat will be spayed or neutered, receive a three-year rabies shot, a long-acting antibiotic, and ear tipping. Any services requested beyond this will be at an additional cost to the caretaker.
A QUICK FIX volunteer will bring the caretaker traps and will explain how to use them. The cats will be trapped and taken to the vet's office in the trap the night before surgery. Surgery is done the next day, and the cat will recover that night at the vet's office. Cats are picked up the next day and are able to be released once they get back home.
If the caretaker has any questions or issues at any time during the QUICK FIX, the assigned volunteer will assist them.
Donations are also accepted in addition to the required fee. |
